There are times where thoughts are far more feeling than they could possibly be words. Waves of emotion so intense that they can’t possibly adhere to typical structures of sentences and paragraphs but they still need to be said rather than shown. Poetry shows us that we don’t always have to play by the rules, anything is possible. Sometimes words can paint just as beautiful a picture as a brush.
Here lies, my words without rules:
ATTACK
My thoughts are intrusive.
Storm down the wall
of positivity that I built.
Crumbling, a facade
Unprepared for attack,
but always starting wars.
An intimidation tactic –
aggressively, I strike first.
Flaming arrows, poison darts.
Too indecisive for one weapon.
And for each weapon,
shoot for two methods.
Explosions inside,
my body, the walls.
All of the emotions that I hide
torrent from my eyes
like waterfalls.
Create a moat.
Give me space.
Now approach.
Horseback or walking,
pick your pace.
Customize the scene,
I’ll cater to your taste.
The more things that you change,
the less I’ll recognize the place.
Destroy, rebuild
how I wanted to be
before more intrusive thoughts
drive me crazy.
The truth is, my favorite poems have this magical way of writing themselves. All I have to do is tell the feeling that it’s okay to come out. How do you choose to let your feelings out?
Much love, until next time.
