Poetry Series – Patience

It’s incredibly rare that we understand the extent to which a person will impact us when they come into our lives. The intentions we went into a situation with may drastically differ from what develops. When being unhealthy, I used my ability to adapt as a tool in people-pleasing. Now that I’m working on healing, I use my ability to adapt to allow room for the possibilities that I didn’t imagine possible when first setting out on my journey. I don’t use them to lessen my potential by limiting myself to the expectations of others but to expand it by allowing myself to grow into the roles I didn’t even see coming.

Patience

2,618 miles
two more years, minimum
nine cents per minute
your voice
eighteen, your face
your hugs
paid for in patience
twenty-five cents
per message
per picture
fifty-eight cents
per letter
you
invaluable, priceless
I thought I could help.
Do you know how much you’ve helped?
the numbers
inconsequential
test my patience
I’ll walk the distance
