Poetry Series – Change

Self-awareness doesn’t always come easily. We have eyes that look outward, calling our attention to what is around us rather than within us. With phrases like “seeing is believing”, it makes it harder to trust what we know and observe about ourselves when we are busy seeing everyone but us. In an attempt to solve this conundrum for myself, I continue allowing myself to look outward, but I leave enough awareness to feel for the reaction that’s happening inwardly. What am I feeling and what does it mean, about me?

Change

It’s no one’s fault
but ours,
the stars
of our story.
Blame
cast out,
nothing but shame
we’ve felt.
Projections
that I see
covering people,
a reflection of me.
Anything
that leaves me displeased,
I change
internally.
