Poetry Series – Dreaming

I think one of the most powerful things we can do is let a person know how loved they are. Sometimes love scares you shitless and this takes a lot of courage, though. I’m looking for the courage to take all of these little memories I’ve written and placed in the sight of mostly strangers, and seldom the subjects, and present them in the most impactful places. Sometimes, when I close my eyes, I dream of it.

Dreaming

There was a day that we were laying on the couch
and I was SO high
but, baby, I’m always the highest when you’re around.
Even when I’m stone-cold sober – highest, flying.
I was so high, my eyes so heavy
but, baby, sometimes your face is kind of heavenly.
So I’d pry my eyes back open each time they’d slam themselves shut.
Just a few more seconds, please. Oh god, I am SO in love.
I don’t know how many times it had to happen before you told me
that each time I reopen them, I look like I think I’m dreaming – it’s true.
I told you it wasn’t, tried to downplay my wonder – it’s true.
My dreams were nightmares before I met you.
Now, I close my eyes and I’ll be damned if I let anything else, ever,
wander into my mind and pull my thoughts from you, I’m tethered.
Some days, we’re lying on the couch
and I am SO high.
Baby, you make me so high, I never want to come back down.

Much love, until next time.
