Poetry Series – Gamble

Gambling has played a funny role in my life. I’ve never been one for sports betting, mostly because I don’t know sports, but I’ve taken a chance on just about everything else presented to me in life. Sometimes the payoff was beyond what I could imagine. Other times I’ve faced great losses, learned things the hard way.

After enough hard losses, I learned to take a more calculated approach to my gambling. I’d start considering the risk vs reward a little more heavily than relying on chance. Sometimes, though, we just get a feeling and have to take a bet on a leap of faith – one that defies all logic. For me, a person. I’m all in.

Gamble

He slid the football poll to me
“you want on?”
No
“what’s wrong, you don’t gamble?”
I looked him up and down,
laughed.
I really wouldn’t say that.

Much love, until next time.
