Yesterday my son walked into the kitchen and said “Mom, do you ever know things and you don’t know how but you are really sure about them and then they come true?”. Yes baby, absolutely. All the time, actually.
I took the opportunity to explain to him that I think if we stay open to our feelings and the world around us, then all of us can experience stuff like that much more consistently than we do.
The lights started flickering when I wrote this dream down this morning and they didn’t stop until I finished this poem. I don’t believe in coincidences but I believe that sometimes we don’t always understand what we know until after it happens.
Dream Girl
I’ve seen this little girl, countless times
Maybe she’s a reflection of me
I can never seem to look into her eyes
She only comes to me when mine are closed
I’m tucked away in dreamland
and that’s when suddenly, she shows
This time I walked right past
before her tears, her whimpers
stopped me in my tracks.
As soon as I saw her,
immediately I knew
She has a message for me
and they always come true.
“I’m sorry”, she said
face in her hands,
lowering her head.
What surprised me more
is what I did next
when across my face
a smile crept.
“It’s him, isn’t it?”
all I could say
when she nodded her head
I cupped her face.
My smile widened, tone reassured
“It’s okay, sweetie.
For what it’s worth,
I love him the most.
Enough to chance getting hurt.”
She disappeared
when I opened my eyes
and I can’t help but wonder
if it was for herself
that she cried.
Much love, until next time.
