Poetry Series – Laundry Dilemma

I find it nearly impossible, often, to admit to what I’m feeling or thinking. No matter how much of myself I put on display, I still circle back and find myself embarrassed by the parts that aren’t yet out. It’s almost as if this disturbingly difficult journey has been just a little bit too easy for me and I’m waiting for the catch – I don’t think there is one. I can’t tell you how thankful I am that it’s only nearly impossible. That leaves room for perseverance, I will.

Laundry Dilemma

I put laundry off until Friday
every week
come Friday, dilemma
what do I wear?
What can I sacrifice, dirty
for a whole week?
What will I not miss?
It’s Friday
and I woke at 2am
with a dilemma,
laundry related.
Monday morning
I peeled a shirt off
my bedroom floor.
It wasn’t mine
but that didn’t stop it
from following me
all week,
room to room,
crawling into bed at night.
It’s Friday,
I usually do laundry,
all of it,
but I don’t want to wash
away the magic.
I’m not sure I can sacrifice, clean
for the whole week.
I might miss it.
Yet I don’t want anyone to know
my attachment,
so I’ll wash it.

Much love, until next time.
