Poetry Series – Uncomfortable Encounter

My favorite days to write are the ones where everything feels like fair game. I don’t want to apologize for who I am or what I’ve experienced and I certainly don’t want to hold back the words begging to erupt from my mouth. I should be doing laundry, the clothes won’t wash themselves. But the longer I stare at this screen, I realize the words don’t write themselves either. They only come into existence. They’re on me to take care of. Laundry, words.

The clothes will still be dirty later. Ideas might run.

Uncomfortable Encounter

You want to meet my boyfriend
you tell me you want to like him
I love him
what do you think will change
if you don’t
unless it’s you
nothing
You want to meet my boyfriend
I want to vomit on you
my skin crawls
self disgust
any time you’re near
I hate it
You want to meet my boyfriend
I feel so guilty saying
you haven’t
because I’m embarrassed
by you
by me
I remember
you telling me to change
clothes, self, body
embarrassing
You want to meet my boyfriend
I know you won’t like him
you don’t even
like yourself

Much love, until next time.
