Poetry Series – Controversy

When you start sharing your truth, the people that have wronged you will inevitably protest. We grow in a society where it’s encouraged to hide all of your greatest wrongs, biggest flaws, lest you be judged for them.
One of the biggest wrongs I’ve committed, at least to myself, was tiptoeing around people so often that it became expected. Now when I walk and don’t muffle the steps, it’s taken as an attack because of the experiences I address.
You can call me narcissistic and you can believe that it’s true, but always what you see in others is a reflection of you.

Controversy

Every artist, every writer is faced with some controversy
Mine –
The people that put me through hell
don’t want me writing what happened to me
Everything else, they say is fair game
But the trauma at their hand –
keep that shit off the page
I can’t be quiet anymore
My voice came with my age
When I try to suppress it
It bursts out as rage
Gaslighting daily
Calling me names
Putting me down
Why? Because of your shame?
Whoever the narc is
is really to blame
Remember a picture on Facebook
made you react just the same?
Something out in the public
Might skew someone’s view
And the most important thing
is your image to you
You say it’s your son
but your feelings come first
push them onto everyone
try to coerce
Called yourself a fan
but only when it fits
the narrative you want to portray
but now I see through it

Much love, until next time.
