My need for variety will be the death of my so I’m slowing down and trying to build a skill – or two, or three, maybe four. I need to toggle back and forth, have diversity to my day. Sometimes I need to think of what I’m writing, other times I just have something to say. So I’m a day late on writing because diversity pulled me back and I was elbow deep in meatloaf after giving my hair a whack.
In the spirit of growing skills, this poem is written as an assignment of sorts and inspired by The Devil’s Workday – Modest Mouse.
Devil in Details
The devil is in the details
He sets them on repeat
Singing through his work day
To a hella catchy beat
The devil is in the details
Catch his work upon the street
tries leaving marks on ever person
A bigger army, a greater feat
The devil is in the details
makes our minds begin to slip
Entices you with pleasure
Then cracks you with his whip
The devil is in the details
become a slave to your urges
the pleasure has subsided
a need to escalate emerges
The devil is in the details
he justifies your cheat
says your actions aren’t so bad
after all, you gotta eat
The devil is in the details
when you wish upon a star
the devil grants your wish
in exchange for who you are
The devil’s in the details
I didn’t mean to do so wrong
path paved with good intentions
as we stroll and sing his song
Much love, until next time.
