Poetry Series – Personal Exploration

What’s in a name? I wonder as I attempt to accurately title this poem.  Think of the meanings behind them, question their truths.

Do you take on the traits of a name, or does it mold to you?

Personal Exploration

Mania tinged mo(u)rnings
As I struggle to let go
Of everything but your ghost
Post to ante, meridiem follows
But I’m lost, somewhere around here
Meridian, i imagine circling back
Measure the distance that grows between us
We set out knowing it was a trip we would never return from
Exploring the depths of uncharted territories
Creating the map as we go, the world, ours
But it’s getting late, time to shut the book on this chapter for the night
And I’ve never been much for history anyways, so I tuck your memory away in the chambers.
Buried as the body that was never to return
But I let the mourning pass with the night
Lay to rest any doubt that ever lingered beneath clawed-dirty finger nails
And I hold my breath as the darkness lifts, clearing the way for the morning
And for one last moment before I breathe out, i remember you
And finally, I’m grateful for the beautiful constrast you’ve given to this light
See, I needed to leave but now I admit, I needed you too
And just because I killed you off in my story, in my head, doesn’t mean it was never true.
But I’ve canopied, and you’ve still got growing to do
So I’ve redefined master internally, stripping the power from the narrative you skewed
Which isn’t to say submission doesn’t find home here too
Learning to coexist cohesively
Embodying wholeness, becoming new

Much love, until next time.
