Poetry Series – Disconnection: Mental Health Edition

I am FULL of unpopular opinions that I am just awaiting an eager ear to whisper into. Shouting into the void has lost its appeal. I’m so tired of hearing my echo call out after me that there have been days where I question if it’s my own voice that keeps people from hearing me. I want to be soft but I am ITCHING for connection that runs DEEP.

Maybe together, we can face ALL of the scary and we won’t keep looking into bottles for the answers we seek.

Disconnection: Mental Health Edition

What would it take
to convince you
that your mental health
condition

is conditional upon
the life you’ve been living,
trying to fit into boxes you
were never meant to be in

A pill will do nothing but
shrink you small enough to
think you’ve almost made it –
just a few more pounds.

Now you’re anorexic but I
guess that’s just a side effect
of treating depression.
Swapping one illness for “maybe” lesser.

What would it take
to convince you
you’d feel better present –
facing the ugly with a couple of friends.

Much love, until next time.
