Poetry Series – Performative

Do you want to know the shameful truth? Of course you do, we love knowing we’re not alone in our monstrous beliefs and habits!

The truth is, I feel most alive on stage. I love the attention and the physical proof that I am good at something. I walk away, shaking. Every cell in my body is dancing to the music of the soundtrack that only happens in my head. THAT is living.

So too is the idea that it can coexist with the mundane magic of a happy family and a level head. What I’m saying is.. maybe my home life doesn’t need to be a performance since I’ve already found a place for it.

Habits are formed and made for breaking. So it might take a second, but I trust I’ll shake this.

If you’re afraid the truth is going to come out?
…it is.

Performative

I asked why stage felt so much like home.
In the silence, a knowing set it;
I’ve been performing for approval
from birth
to birthing.
As if it’s not enough
to trust the woman within,
or her mission.

Much love, until next time.
